How to check an Airbnb registration number

Find the registration number on the Airbnb listing — Scroll to the section headed 'Registration number', 'Things to know' or the host's description. Spanish listings usually show a code such as VUT/MA/39777 or VFT/MA/12345.
Copy the code exactly — Include the letters and the province code. Spacing and separators do not matter — VUT MA 39777 and VUT/MA/39777 are treated the same.

Read the result carefully — A match tells you a registration entry exists. It does not confirm the entry is current, that the property matches the advert, or that municipal and community rules permit tourist letting.

What the code looks like

In Andalucía a holiday-rental home carries a code in the form VUT/MA/00000: VUT for vivienda de uso turístico, a two-letter province code (MA is Málaga), and the sequential number issued by the Junta de Andalucía. Older adverts show the equivalent VFT prefix. Read more in what is a VUT number.

Red flags on an Airbnb listing

No registration number anywhere in the listing, and the host avoids the question.
A code that does not match any official record when searched.
A number that belongs to a different category — for example a hotel (H) or tourist apartment (A) code on what is advertised as a private flat.
A listing in a municipality that has suspended new registrations in saturated areas.
